Functional significance of Blood Oxygen Level Dependent (BOLD) imaging in patients with coronary artery disease - a validation study using fractional flow reserve
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background/purpose Blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) cardiac MRI (CMR) uses the signal generated by endogenous hemoglobin in the blood supply to directly measure tissue oxygenation. Therefore it may be useful as a non-contrast enhanced, non-invasive method to detect the presence of myocardial ischemia in patients suspected of having coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of this study was to validate whether BOLDsensitive CMR images can detect and quantify alterations in myocardial oxygen levels in patients with CAD, in comparison to the gold standard of fractional flow reserve (FFR).

T2-prepared steady-state free-precession for detection of hemodynamic significance of coronary artery stenosis - a comparison to fractional flow reserve
Background BOLD CMR has been shown to be able to detect myocardial perfusion differences. However, validation of BOLD CMR against FFR is lacking. Aim of our study was to analyze the potential diagnostic accuracy of blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) in comparison to invasively measured fractional flow reserve (FFR) which served as gold standard for a he...
متن کاملBlood oxygen level dependent and adenosine-perfusion imaging correlates to invasive measurement of fractional flow reserve
Background It has been shown that blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is able to detect myocardial perfusion differences. However, validation of BOLD CMR against myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) is lacking. We sought to analyze the potential diagnostic accuracy of BOLD CMR in comparison to invasively measured FFR which...
متن کاملMyocardial perfusion imaging based on the blood oxygen level-dependent effect using T2-prepared steady-state free-precession magnetic resonance imaging.
BACKGROUND The decision to perform coronary revascularization procedures may hinge on assessment of myocardial perfusion reserve. Blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) MRI is a potential method to detect the effects of regional variations in myocardial blood flow during vasodilation. METHODS AND RESULTS We imaged dogs (n=13) on a 1.5-T whole-body MRI scanner using a new T(2)-prepared steady-sta...
متن کاملPressure gradient measurement in the coronary artery using phase contrast (PC)-MRI: initial patient results towards noninvasive quantification of fractional flow reserve
Background Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is an invasive procedure evaluating the functional significance of an intermediate coronary stenosis in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) [1]. Quantification of pressure gradient (ΔP) across a particular stenosis is the key to the determination of FFR. Noninvasive ΔP measurement (ΔPMR) using phase-contrast (PC)-MRI in conjunction with NavierSto...

Objective: Assuming that cardiac rehabilitation and exercise significantly reduces mortality rate in coronary artery disease and has an important role in secondary prevention, the purpose of this study is to assess the effects of strength training and cardiac rehabilitation programs on biomechanical parameters of blood flow velocity and blood flow rate and these relationships with the brachial ...
